NEW DELHI: The Electoral reverses of the Congress in Gujarat and Maharashtra further intensified the rumblings within the ruling party with a former Union Minister declaring that the issue of change of leadership would certainly be raised at a meeting of party MPs on March 13.
Addressing a Press conference, Kumarmangalam asserted that the party was not a “zamindari” of any individual and demanded convening of an AICC session and meeting of the Congress party in Parliament (CPP) for a “serious introspection” of the state of affairs in the party.
Voicing his opposition to what he called the policy of “rod and ram” to stifle criticism within the party, the young MP, part of a group of MPs styling as young Turks, said that the issues raised by the expelled party leader, Arjun Singh were “right is sucess.”
Launching a scathing attack on the economic policies pursued by the Government, he said the “deviation” from economic reforms launched by Rajiv Gandhi have “literally landed the country into a crisis.” “The policy has been totally distorted and liberalization and deregulation have become synonymous with corruption, arbitrariness and inequity.”
