LUDHIANA: The Ludhiana Police June 23rd arrested former chairman of Improvement Trust Surinder Aggarwal in a case of land racket worth Rs 12 crore in Transport Nagar. According to the Superintendent of City Police Kuldeep Singh, the arrest was made under specific directions from the district und sessions judge A.S. Sodhi. Sodhi was entrusted with an enquiry into the racket by the Punjab and Haryana Court last year.

Four other Trust officials have also been booked along with him but they are yet to be arrested. Kuldeep Singh identified them as Trust engineer S.N. Gandhi, executive officer Aviar Singh Azad, law officer AK, Bhakhri and kanungo Harbans Lal. All these officials had allegedly cheated the Improvement Trust by forgoing its claim on the land in question by changing the Counsel al the last moment.

The BJP MLA Sat Pal Gosain had moved the High Court alleging the Trust’s interests had been bartered away by these officials. The apex court marked the judicial probe to the Sessions Judge.
