FRESNO: If the Sikh Community intends to save its culture, language and religious tenets for the next generation it has to follow the process initiated by the Management Committee of the Sikh Temple Fresno (Dakota Road). The Committee has started two weekly classes on every Sunday. The children are divided into two age groups to provide them elementary and advanced knowledge of the Punjab language, culture and Sikh history.

This difficult task is handled by Mrs Sharan Jit Kaur Ranu and Mrs. Jasbir Kaur Sidhu as regular honorary teachers. Mrs Ranu teaches religion while Mrs. Sidhu provides lessons in Punjabi language. These two “Guddies” as they are popularly known in their friendly circles, are assisted by Dr. Tajinder Singh Sandhu Dr. Har charan Singh Chan Dr. Gurcharan Singh Sidhu and Dr. Gurcharan Singh Matharu.

When this correspondent visited the Sikh Temple, the classes were in progress. The students were taking their lessons in a dedicated and disciplined manner.

The majority of the children were Sikh in appearance and actions.

Later all the children in the group presented two Shabads and recited Anand Sahib (Six pow Ties). Their performance was impressive and highly appreciated by the Sangat.

The WS.N. Congratulates the Sikh Temple Management Committee and especially Mrs. Ranu and Mrs. Sidhu.
