Members of the Sikh Student Association, Shivdarshan Singh, Sukhdev Singh and Harnam Singh (traditionally, Sikhs use the same last name to show unity) display the Khalistan flag minutes before raising it in the Bell Memorial Union. Khalistan is the name of the country the Sikhs wish to have recognized. The Sikhs have been fighting for Khalistan since 1984, when the Indian government stomped on a civil rights movement and killed 200,000 Sikhs, Sukhdev said.
