CHANDIGARH (PTI): Five militants and a soldier of the Border Security Force (BSF) were killed in separate incidents in the northern Indian state of Punjab since Jan23 overnight, Police said here Sunday.
The BSF Jawan was killed when his self-loading rifle (SLR), went off accidently at a border out post in the Dera Baba Nanak sector in Gurdaspur district Sunday afternoon.
Two listed militants, Jamail Singh and Chamkaur Singh, were killed in an encounter with security forces. Two AK47 rifles and revolvers were recovered from the site.
In another encounter, two militants were killed near village Jalalpur in Fatehgarh Sahib District
A group of militants attacked a police party escorting a militant in Sangrur district. Policemen returned the fire killing one of the militants.
