AMRITSAR, Punjab, India: Jan. 17, Reuter: Five members of a North Indian family, including a newly married man, were slaughtered by unknown gun men during a family celebrating on Sunday, police said.
They were among 11 people killed since Saturday night, in the Punjab violence as a sequence to Sikh struggle for a separate Sikh homeland in the Punjab, taking the political death toll in the state this year to 87.
The gunmen lined up six brothers and their parents for execution, but three of the brothers escaped after bullet hit a light bulb, plunging the room into darkness.
In another incident, two policemen were killed on Saturday night about 20 km north of the Sikh holy city of Amritsar when they were ambushed by gunmen.
