AMRITSAR: Five persons were killed and 25 injured five seriously, in an explosion in a Punjab Roadways bus at the general bus stand. The explosion occurred shortly after the bus arrived from Ludhiana.
Two of the killed were identified as Doordarshan employees A.S.Prashar and Hardev Singh. The injured, including five women, were admitted to Guru Tegh Bahadur and Guru Nanak Dev hospitals.
Besides the bus, a taxi and a few rickshaws were damaged in the explosion.
The Amritsar police chief, Hardeep Dhillon, said the incident occurred when a gunny bag of ‘ushion crackers’ kept in the bus exploded with force.
