After the Martyrdom of Bhai Mani Singh, Sikhs were persecuted all over and everywhere. Crush the Sikhs was the order of the Government to local officials. Dewan Lakhpat Rai vowed to wipe out the Sikh community roots and branches, in revenge for the death of his brother Jaspat Raik, the Faujdar of Eminabad al the hands of a Rangreta Sikh, Nibhan Singh in early 1746. Reading the Sikh scriptures and talking of the Sikh Gurus were threatened with the dire consequences of ripping open the belly of the culprit. Even the word Gur (Jaggery) which sounds like Guru was forbidden to be uttered. Sikhs had to face a holocaust from Yahia Khan and Dewan Lakhapat Rai. All the Sikhs in Lahore were murdered in cold blood. No less than 7000 armed and unarmed Sikhs were killed in several skirmishes, 3000 were taken to Lahore as prisoners and executed publicly at the site of Shaheed Gunj.
