JOHANESBURG Reuter: Fifteen men were shot dead and several others wounded in a fierce outbreak of tribal fighting in South Africa’s Natal province over the weekend police said.

A spokesman said that the clash in remote mountainous bush near Kranskop about 80 km (50 miles) north of Durban was between members of the Vuma and Mnyeswayo tribes.

He said the fighting apparently flared after four men had asked some Mnyeswayo to point out a member of the Vuma group they were sheltering This was done and the man was killed provoking a GT between the two tribal groups.

The spokesman said not all the bodies had been recovered because of the in accessibility of the Terrain but a search was continuing.

He said he did not have an exact figure of the number of injured because they had been taken to different hospitals.

Fighting among tribal groups in the province occurs frequently. Several dozen people have been killed in such clashes this year.
