WASHINGTON: Congressman Vic Fazio, well known for his activism on behalf of the beleaguered minorities such as the Sikhs, scored a victory in House of Representatives when he successfully carried an amendment that slashed Military Education funding to India to $0 (nothing) as reported last week. This will guarantee no aid on this front unless President Clinton is shown dramatic changes and progress on the Human Rights front.

WSN Services revealed that India was so taken aback by this development that the Ambassador was rushed home to begin instructions on how to deal with the congressional act. Frustrated by the work of Fazio and others such as novice Congressman Sam Farr of Carmel, the diplomat will be hard pressed 10 explain his failure to foresee such an event,

California’s senior Congressman seems to have the uncanny ability to be on the winning side of money issues and his support gives a big push to any bill he backs. He, along with Robern Matsui is being credited with keeping one of Sacramento’s largest employers, McClellan Air base off the closure list even though insiders thought that the base was a goner. Thanks to Vic Fazio and his supporters people are working and India is listening.
