I came from India in 1986 and joined 6th grade. did find some difficulty of keeping myself with the class. However, greater challenge was to make friends with other students. In India it was easy to deal with friends at equal level as one of them. The students here don’t accept me as one of them. They consider me as an outsider because of my long uncut hair. People ask me why don’t cut my hair. I tell them this is my faith and Tam proud of it In India I participated in many activities such as Speech, making drama but here the teachers didn’t give me any important role, which I can perform efficiently. This makes me feel inferior. 1am doing my best against all these odds,
I want to continue to be a Sikh and look like a Sikh. I am sure my strong confidence in my faith and my hard work in the class are going to help me to get ‘respect from my classmates and my teacher.
The things are getting easier but very slowly, and this encourages me to stick to my faith and to my principals. If I do not have strong faith in my religion fear I will lose my mind. Knowing more about the Sikh philosophy I feel great as a Sikh.
