LUDHIANA (PTI): Surgeons at a local hospital in this industrial town Of Punjab have performed a rare feat by reattaching the facial skin and scalp of a nine-year-old girl.

The girl, Sandeep, hailing from Kapurthala town in the north Indian state, had been brought to the hospital recently with the skin on her face completely peeled off like a mask and her scalp split into two.

What remained of her face were the eye-balls and the depressions for the nose and teeth. The child had accidently got her hair en- tangled in the shaft of the engine of a threshing machine.

According to the head of Department of Microsurgery ant Plastic Surgery and Principal of the Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, Dr. Abraham Thomas, and the operation was the first of its kind and lasted for nine long hours.
