NEW DELHI: In a bizarre incident a six-inch object of wood and metal; seized from a possible militant went off in a Delhi police van slightly injuring the driver Saturday afternoon The militant one of two who barged into 2 Kamala Nagar flat was caught by citizens and turned over to the police.

The police say the six-inch object was taken by the Roop Nagar police station in charge R.S. Gautam who had come to the spot in the van. The SHO put the objection the front seat next to the left door and returned to where the militants were being held Just then the object exploded injuring the driver constable Krishan Kumar who was standing nearby.

The blast punched a hole through the vans door smashed the windscreen and mangled the left seat. The people speculate it may have been a stick grenade or chemically activated explosive device. The militant has been identified as Kulwant alias Kulvinder who has been resident of Uttam Nagar in west Delhi for the last eight years. Following the arrest of Kulwant raids were conducted throughout the city. At least one person Avtar Singh has been detained for interrogation.

The story stars at the first-floor of D-99aKamla Nagar flat owned by B.B. Bhaskar a former policeman who is not businessman. At the time the two Sikh men barged into the house his wife Bela the maid servant and the sweepers were the only ones at home. The third accomplice stayed below in an auto-rickshaw.
