Kashmir Srinagar: One constable was killed and five senior Police and Para-military officials injured in a powerful explosion Mr.J.N Saksena was among those injured in the blast that rocked the office of the state police chief at noon on Friday. The officers were in session in a conference room finalizing security arrangements for Sundays Republic day celebrations. Soon after the incident the entire locality was cordoned off. Curfew restrictions are being posed in the city.

IG escape attempt

SRINAGAR: Inspector General of the Border Security Force (BSF) \V Jaffa escaped an attempt on his life while six people including three militants and a sub-inspector of BSF were killed and 18 subversives arrested in intensified violence in the strife tom Kashmir valley in the border state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Militants lobbed a grenade at Jaffa’s vehicle while he was on his way to work in Athwajan on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway. His security guards returned fire but there was no casualty official sources said.

Militants were killed in Badgam Kupwara and Phulwana while two in clashes in Srinagar official spokesman told reporters.

A red alert was sounded in the border districts of Poonch and Rajouri following reports that some Pak trained militants had infiltrated in to the Indian side with sophisticated weapons and a “definite plan for sabotage and subversion” on or around republic day. Official sources said that security on all vital points and essential supply lanes was being further stepped up and round the clock vigils maintained.

The sources said the militants assisted by Pak Commandos sneaked into the Indian side and were hiding in forests to carry out the tasks of sabotage and subversion assigned by the Pak inter-services intelligence.
