CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court, last week, issued a notice to the Home Secretary, Punjab Senior Superintendent of Police, Hoshiarpur and others in a case of death of arctired captain, allegedly following beating up by police the officials. A Division Bench comprising Justice Amarjeet Chaudhary and Justice y,S. Aggarwal issued the notice on a writ seeking investigations by an independent agency into the matter. The writ has been filed by Mrs. Surjit Kaur, widow of retired Captain Bahadur Singh through her counsel Navkiran Singh, Mrs. Rubina N. Singh and Harshinder Singh.
The petition said the Sub Divisional Magistrate, Dasuya, has already held an inquiry and submitted his report to the Deputy Commissioner about the incident which took place on May 1, But the contents of the reports have not been made public.
The petition said the police had raided the house of deceased a day before the incident allegedly to implicate some members of the family in some false case, On May 1, when Capt. Bahadur Singh was going on a scooter with his nephew the DSP’H.S, Brar allegedly chased him. While the nephew escaped, the captain was beaten up allegedly by the DSP and his gunman. He fell unconscious and due to lack of medical attention he died. The family was not immediately informed about the incident, the petition said.
