LONDON: Excerpts from a new book about the Lebanon hostages quote former Archbishop of Canterbury Robert Runcie as saying he felt Terry Waite had misled him and had compromised his own status as a negotiator for the church.

The Sunday Telegraph quoted Runcie as saying, “We both agreed that he would not be working for the church once the (last) Beirut tip had been completed,”

Waite was kidnapped on that trip, on Jan.20,1987, and was held hostage until Nov.18,1991.
