MISSISSIPPI: Mike Espy, Secretary of Agriculture visited his home state to meet with the state congressmen and also gather support for the President’s economic plan. He made two stops, one at Jackson the State Capital and the other at Gulf Coast. Addressing a joint session of the State legislatures, he urged them to embrace the economic policy of President Clinton which was the best way to overcome the financial difficulties the State was facing.
At Gulf Coast he met a large number of democrat educationalists, business workers and city officials. He told them that a drastic and bold change is needed in American economy and the proposed plan of President Clinton was the best answer. On the question of human rights, he said that countries violating human rights would not be given aid and trade restrictions imposed on them, Mississippians gave a very enthusiastic support and a warm welcome to Secretary Espy.
