LONDON: India’s High Commissioner to Britain said yesterday that despite a recent upswing in Indo British relations, “a dark speck” remains in the support certain “Khalistan” protagonists in Britain continue to receive for promoting terrorism in India.

M.K, Rasgotra in an address to the Indo British parliamentary group, however, did not mention the British Government.

Diplomatic sources said what the former Indian Foreign Secretary was referring to was a handful of British politicians who are known to have continued to support Britain based proponents of “Khalistan.”

The Indian envoy expressed his satisfaction that Indo a British relations were “on the mend” but added “a small number of Sikh extremists based in the U.K. continue to receive support and succor to encourage terrorist activities in India.

Rasgotra’s statement comes 12 days after he outlined India’s concerns at a dinner hosted by the Indian Journalists Association (Europe).

Rasgota added that what happened in Britain would “influence India’s response to this country. it will one day or the other shape or misshape Indo British relations.” He said his primary task in Britain ‘was to ensure that these misunderstandings vanish.
