PATNA: The entire state has been declared drought-affected in view of the failure of crops due to negligible rains, according to the chief minister, Laloo Prasad Yadav.
Yadav told reporters here Oct.12, that realization of all loans, rent and other government dues had been suspended and a massive operation would be launched to face the critical situation in the state. The Center was being informed about the serious drought condition as well as for rushing massive assistance to face the situation, the chief minister said.
The chief minister voiced resentment over reports of killing of Bihar laborers in Shillong.
He said he had sent a fax through to the Prime Minister, the home minister and the chief minister of Meghalaya, requesting them to ensure protection of Biharis in Shillong. Panic was prevailing among Biharis following the killing of Lalit Rai and 10 members of his family in Shillong a few days ago. Many Biharis residing there were getting persistent threats to their lies, he said.
