NEW DELHI: All 17 members of the Indian Embassy in Kabul, including six diplomats, arrived here on Feb.6 by an Arianna flight.

The mission staff returned here by a schedule flight, which landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport at 9:15 p.m.

The Government had earlier taken the decision to temporarily close down its mission in Kabul and evacuate all diplomatic and no diplomatic staff, following rocket attacks in which one Border Security force guard was killed.

Kabul has been under heavy rocket attacks in the past four days by the HizbiIslami rebels,

Pakistan had earlier closed down its mission in Kabul also, The embassies of China, Turkey and Indonesia still functioning there, are also in the process of evacuating their staff.

This is the first time that India has closed down its mission in since the outbreak of conflict in 1979, following the marching of the then Soviet force into Afghanistan.
