LUCKNOW; Prime Minister Rajiy Gandhi announced that the parliamentary election would be held in January 1990, as scheduled.
His announcement came even as opposition leader expressed their apprehensions that the elections could be postponed.
Even as Gandhi announced his elections scheduled opposition leaders and eminent jurist Ram Jethmalani said Gandhi would postpone the elections, by creating a “situation.”
He said the dissidence against Gandhi was at its peak. He said he favored the constitutional amendment under which politicians would be restricted to contesting elections for only one term. Lengthy terms in office were not conducive to the interest of the country he said.
He also wanted the withdrawal of cases against Unified Akali Dal Chief Simiranjit Singh Mann.
