NEW DELHI: Haryana came under presidential rule Saturday and will go to polls simultaneously with Parliamentary elections next month.
The dissolution of the 90 member stale assembly and direct Tule over the state was ordered in a presidential proclamation which came a day after the federal cabinet’s acceptance of the state governor’s recommendation in this regard.
This is the third time that Haryana has come under president’s rule since it became a full-fledged state in 1966. The term of the state assembly was to expire next year.
Chautala recommended dissolution of the state assembly amidst loud protests from political parties which demanded that the state be brought under direct rule,
They alleged free and fair polls could not be held under Chautala, eldest son of Devi Lal.
