JATPUR: The Chief Election Commissioner, T.N. Seshan, last week, said that the Commission was going to hold assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir possibly by July 18 next as the President’s rule there could not be extended any more in general conditions of the rules.

On his one day official visit to Jaipur, Seshan said at a press conference here that the situation in the Kashmir valley had improved and if nothing happened latter on “we are going to hold it.”

When reminded of burning down of ChrareSharief by mercenaries and. the Election Commission going to hold elections stain said “My styrene faith is in democracy and! will try as possible as I can to hold the election under conducive atmosphere.”

Referring the commission’s enquiry of my two last to the Home Ministry in connection with the election in J and K, Seshan said “the government’ reply is yet to be received,” but, he said, “I have talked to the Home Secretary recently on probability of election.”
