SRINAGAR (PTI): Dr.Abdul Ahad Guroo, an eminent cardiologist, who had mediated for the release of Rubiya Sayeed, daughter of former union home minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, has been killed by unidentified persons.

According to an official spokesman, the body of Guroo, who was heading the cardiology department of Soura Medical Institute, was recovered April 1 by police from an area close to the institute.

The body was taken to Soura medical institute where the Doctors identified him and was later shifted to his residence.

A large number of people gathered at his residence and in parts of the city some processions were taken out to condemn his killing.

Curfew was imposed in parts of Srinagar as a precautionary measure to deal with escalating tension following the killing of eminent cardiologist Dr. Abdul Ahad Guroo at Buchpora in downtown Srinagar Thursday morning.

Amy and paramilitary forces took position in sensitive areas of Srinagar, parts of which were placed under curfew.

Dr, Guroo’s brother-in-law, Aashaq Hussain, a contractor, was killed on the spot and several others injured in Srinagar when police opened fire on a procession carrying the body of Dr.Guroo for burial, official sources said

The sourees said police opened fire after mourners refused to disperse at Barzullah, outside the slain doctor’s residence. Elsewhere in the valley of the strife torn northern state of Jammu and Kashmir, 10 people, four of them militants, were killed and 19 militants, including a self-styled “regimental commander” of a militant outfit, were captured an official spokesman said.
