RE: Dr. Gurpartap Singh Birk
Dear Mrs. Epperson:
My client the above-referenced Dr.Birk has elected not to appeal his deportation matter further and wishes only to return to England as expeditiously as possible. Nevertheless he has asked me to stress to you that despite certain findings made by the Immigration Judge and the BIA he has never done or wished any harm to U.S. citizens or USS interests. Also the Sikh community in the U.S. (numbering some 400000 members) has asked me to state emphatically with due respect their vehement disagreement with any suggestion that Dr. Birk is not of good character or poses any threat to US national security.
AS a gesture of his good intentions and in order to spare the US government expense Dr Birk now asks that he be allowed to pay the expense for his transportation to England. Please be assured that Dr.Birk seeks no control over.
INS’s choice of airline or departure time and date He proposes simply to pay the requisite amount leaving INS to handle the details. Also if it is deemed necessary that an officer accompanies him on any flight Dr. Birk will gladly pay the officer’s air fare as well finally if it would be convenient for INS Dr. Birk will open an escrow account from which INS could draw needed funds the remainder of which could be donated to disabled American veterans.
Please accept these suggestions in the cooperative spirit in which they are made. I await your earliest response.
