NEW ORLEANS On March 91, 992 Monday morning at a.m. the Oakdale Prison authority approached Dr. Gurpartap Singh Birk and said “Pack your luggage and Jet us go!” “What is going on?” asked Dr-Birk. “No questions we don’t know etc” the authority replied. This was infecting Dr Birks deportation process. An evening Continental flight took Dr. Birk and the U.S. authority from Houston to London where about noon time the next day) both parties got rid of each other! The time for which his wife two sons and other members of the Birk family (in Birmingham were waiting for 7 years was 6.pm. Tuesday March 10, 1992. During these 7 years the patience of all members of the Birk family in general and S Parduman Singh Birk (Dr.Birks brother) in particular was remarkable!

The New Orleans Federal Court record of U.S. Government dated May 22, 1987 revealed the following information on Dr. Birk (herein referred to as “the defendant”): “The defendant was born in Punjab on May 18, 1950. He and his family immigrated to Great Britain in 1964. As verified the defendant was granted a Doctoral Degree in Computer Technology from the University of Manchester on July 10, 1978. From February 1982 to May 1985 he was employed by Automatic Toll Systems Mount Vernon New York. He was working as a consultant earning $100000.00 per annum. Company official’s advice that he was a good employee prior to his arrest on Federal charges and the defendant had no known had no known criminal records in either the United States or overseas. He has no history of drug usage. The defendant enjoyed the reputation of a hardworking inelegant law abiding permanent resident alien in this country.”

More news along with some cross-firing of the lawyers is given under the tile “Dr. Birk vs. Uncle Sam.”

Dr Birk while talking on the telephone to the present reporter said “the Rest of the news you may take care in the way you like but please make sure that you convey my humble and sincere Thanks to the Sadh Sangat (the Sikh community) for the moral support and help they have given tome In addition I have a great regard for my co-defendants and I wish them the best!”

Other defendants in this case were S. Sukhvinder Singh 37 (Senenced for 7 Years) S.Virinder Singh 32 (Sentenced for 5 years) S Jasbir Singh Sandhu 32 (Sentenced for 5 years) and S.Jatinder Singh Ahluwalia 36 a New Orleans taxi-driver after spending 2 years in prison was acquitted free and clear by Hon. Judge Patrice E.Carp). As all five Sikhs maintained their unity during this testing time that was remarkable! In a way this case was helpful to the Sikhs. Had Tom Norris the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) undercover agent enjoyed the Thanksgiving and Christmas of 1985 among the Sikhs more Sikhs would have been arrested! Sikhism believes in the universal brotherhood and equal rights for women. In addition it believes assistance to tyrants is obedience to God” .¢; use of sword as l aster son to protect the innocents Torturing Sikh youths in most inhuman ways at the interrogation centers and prisons had made the already existing sad and bad situ action worse. No doubt the Sikhs are a minority about 2% of the Population and yet they had contributed 80% of the effort for the freedom struggle for India On the other hand population more than certain limit is no longer a sign of strength it is a liability of the nation. Mahatma Gandhi white assessing the power of an individual said “It is possible for a single individual to defy the whole might of an unjust empire to save his honor his religion his soul and lay the foundation for that empires fall or its regeneration!”
