LONDON: A revolutionary, double-sided bat could soon become s common sight in English cricket following its approval by the MCC the game’s ruling body.
Three former England captains, Peter May, Colin Cowdrey and chairman of selectors Ted Dexter, were members of an MCC subcommittee that gave the go ahead to the new-style bat which is flat on both sides.
After tests in the nets, MCC secretary Colonel John Stephenson said, “the cricket subcommittee looked at the bat and following discussions, agreed that it war within the laws of the game so we cannot ban it”.
The decision opens the door for mass production of the new bat marketed by a Bristol-based company.
John Counency, head of the company, said, “the committee was very impressed, Peter May said the bat had a good pickup and feel and the fact it lasts twice as long as conventional bats is also a bonus”,
The bat conforms to the rules limiting its length and width.
