CARMICHAEL: An estimated $840,000 in illegal hashish was smuggled into the United States from Nepal concealed in nylon climbing ropes, narcotics officials announced. The dope in a rope smuggling operation was originally detected at the UPS shipping terminal in Rocklin east of Sacramento, where agents found 4.4 pounds of hashish in a suspicious package. That eventually led to two arrests in Seattle and in the Sacramento suburb of Carmichael, where agents found 22 kilos of hashish, most of it wrapped in cellophane and hidden inside a 995foot purple and black nylon rope.
