NEW DELHI: The director-general of India’s state-run television Shiv Sharma received minor injuries when an attempt was made on his life by four unidentified gunmen who killed his driver and seriously wounded his personal security officer June 13. Sharma who was rushed to the R.M.L. hospital nursing home received pellet injuries on his left shoulder and right hand. Sharma who seemed little bit restless told a PTI reporter “he was feeling fine.”
Police said the assailants in a white Maruti van attacked Sharma’s car near his Kaka Nagar residence in New Delhi at about 9:30 a.m. The attackers first shot the Grees of the car. Then two of the assailants opened fire at the driver and the security officer Sharma who was on the back seat ducked and escaped.
The driver of the car Gobind Ram died on the spot.
He said the assailants walked up to 30 meters and fired indiscriminately all around and then escaped in the vehicle towards Mathura Road using a service lane.
After firing they ran: towards their parked car and escaped eyewitnesses said.
The fleeing assailants also fired at a traffic constable near crossing when he tried to stop them. But the constable ducked and escaped.
