NEW DELHI: J N Dixit, currently India’s high commissioner to Pakistan, has been appointed the new Indian foreign secretary; it was officially announced here Friday.

Fifty five yr. old Dixit will take over from Muchkend Dubey on November 30 when the latter retires from service, spokesman of the enteral affairs ministry here said.

Service officer (IFS) of the 1958 batch, Dixit has served as India’s sensitive places including Colombo, Dhaka and Kabul besides in Islamabad. He has also served as the spokesman of the external affairs ministry. Dixit’s successor in Pakistan has not been announced.

During his 33 years stint in the foreign “service, Dixit has been actively involved in several foreign policy initiatives.
