NEW DELHI (PTI): Janata Dal leader V.P.Singh on July 18 demanded various steps including the dismissal of the Right Wing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, for upholding the constitution in the wake of defiance of court orders by VHP (World Hindu Council) workers in Ayodhya for constructing Ram temple,

Addressing a press conference, he said the National Front and Left Parties combined leaders would meet on Sunday to chart their future course of action on the issue. When asked if his party favored dismissal of the state government, he said his party would support the government in all actions taken to uphold the provisions of the constitution.

Replying to other questions on the subject Singh said let the center spell out its stand and charged it with inaction and abdicating responsibility on a serious issue.

The former prime minister accused the BJP of pursuing a line which was against the country’s interest and of rejecting court verdicts in the matter.

He said the issue was not just of a temple or a Masjid but one of protecting the constitution and the country’s integrity.
