CHANDIGARH: The Govt of India has dropped the proposal to appoint Mr Tara Singh Cheema as a Punjab and Haryana High court judge following an objection raised by the pro Hindu RSS chief justice J V Gupta.
Mr Cheema at present is the district judge here. His name was earlier cleared by the Union Law ministry but objections were raised by Gupta on grounds that prior consultations were not made with him.
However the center has included Mr Jawahar Lal Gupta in the list of 20 names although the C.J had opposed his candidature as well
The new judges being appointed are PK Bali Vijay Jhaji Navdeep Sodhi H.S.Bedi N.K.Kapur and H.S.Brar.
From among district judges P.S.Nehra and Mrs Harminder Kaur Sandhu are also being appointed High Court judges. It is believed that Mr Cheema will be elevated after J.V.Gupta retires in May.
