WASHINGTON D.C.: Community leaders charge bias in the dismissal of a Sikh woman who was fired last month by a fast food chain because she refused to remove her kara, the steel bangle worn by all baptized Sikhs as a symbol of piety. The kara is one of the five religious symbols including kesh long hair and kirpan, a short dagger, which are required to be wom by all the amritdhari or baptized Sikhs.
