NEW DELHI (PTI): Hamid Ansari, India’s ambassador to Iran will take over as India’s new permanent representative to the United Nations at New York.

He will succeed C Gharekhan, who is retiring from the Foreign Service.

Another important diplomatic appointment cleared by the prime minister, P.V. Narasimha Rao, is that of Chandra Shekhar Dasgupta, at present an additional secretary {international organizations) in the external affairs ministry.

Dasgupta will succeed Salman Hyder as India’s ambassador to China.

Salman Hyder will be shifted to New Delhi as secretary (east) in the ministry in place of L.L. Mchrowa.

Malhotra is retiring this month end.

S.K. Arora, India’s chief of mission in Hong Kong, will take over India’s ambassador to Iran in place of Ansari.

Prabhakar Menon, joint secretary (United Nations), is moving to the prime minister’s office in place of Shyam Saran. Menon will be.
