NEW DELHI: A series of intriguing entries found in one of the pocket sized diaries seized from the residence of Sukh Ram by the CBI during raids on August 16 last, could have far reaching political consequences as was witnessed after the Jain diaries were recovered in 1991.
Sources in the CBI, on the condition of anonymity, say that some of the names against whom sums of money is reflected in coded words include ‘PV’, PM, MS, VC, SKI, SY etc.
While some of the entries like NATA and Khemka were traced as they were too well known players in the Sanchar Bhawan during Sukh Ram’s tenure, the CBl is breaking its head against a wall in decoding other entries as the former Communications Minister prefers to be treated at the South end on sea bungalow of his son-in-law in London. Whether these coded names were of politicians or his business partners, Sukh Ram alone can throw light on it. Sharad Pawar, a senior Congress leaded was recently in London. It is not known whether he availed the opportunity to meet his “ailing” party colleagues there to inquire about his health. While Pawar has returned to the Capital Sukh Ram doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to come back and explain sources of disproportionate assets acquired by him after 1992.
