NEW DELHI, India mob of 20,000 people Thursday stripped naked 14 police officers and two women constables and roughed them up for trying to stop a crow¢ of nude Hindus from taking sacred dip, the Press Trust of Indi said.
‘The news agency said some 200 naked men and women walked in procession from a Hindu temple to take an annual ritual bath in the Wardha River in the Shimoga district of Karnataka state, about 1,020 miles south of New Delhi, A group of social workers and district officials tried to prevent the procession but were mobbed by the devout nudists who beat up a Welfare officer and shouted slogans against the police.
‘When a Deputy Superintendent arrived with a party of 15 police reinforcements, including two women constables, a 20,000strong ‘crowd supporting the worshippers “stripped them naked and manhandled them,” the Press Trust reported,
