CHANDIGARH: Devi Lal Deputy Prime Minister announced that the Ravi-Beas waters would reach Haryana through the SYL canal by the next cropping season.
Mr Devi Lal who was addressing a public meeting at Odhan in Sirsa district said efforts were being made not only for the economic uplift of the farming community but also to see that they got an opportunity to share power in the country.
He said he had enhanced the prices of agricultural produce benefiting farmers to the extent of Rs 450 crore in Haryana. But he cautioned many were trying to topple his pro-farmer government.
Mr Devi Lal announced that a Rs 10 lakh tourist complex would be set up at Odhan. He accepted the demands of the people of the area for setting up a sugar mill in | Sirsa district

Mr Devi Lal said though he was the convener of the committee to study the Mandal Commission report neither be not any political party was consulted by Mr V.P.Singh while announcing the implementation of the report. In fact the report was released in haste he added
While mentioning the cause of the welfare of the backward sections of society he said it was good that they were united now. The report of the Gurnam Singh Commission set up to identify the economically socially and educationally backward classes of Haryana would be released soon.
Mr Devi Lai clarified that he was not against women as was being propagated. He had always wanted women to get the maximum educational benefits and join the mainstream of life in the country. The present government was providing number of incentives for the promotion of women’s education he added.
Earlier he was presented with purse for Rs 1.25 lakh and a pagri by people of the area.
