Pursuant to Section 48a of the Civil Code of California, demand is hereby made that within the time limit set by law from the date upon which you are served with this Demand for Publication of Corrections that you publish corrections of information contained in an article you published in your December 4, 1992 edition of the World Sikh News headlined “SGPC gives notice to Yogi.”
My client, Yogi Bhajan, first had knowledge of your libelous publication only within the last few days. Your article falsely states that Yogi Bhajan is not entitled to use of the title “Singh Sahib”: that use of that title by him is an attempt to “unsurp the authority of Jathedars of Akal Takht; that his claim to the right to use that title is false; that he 1s unauthorized to spread Sikh Dharma: and that his actions are “a false and malicious report against the Sikhs.”
That headline and the article to which it was attached area false and unprivileged publication which exposes Yogi Bhajan to hatred, contempt, ridicule and obloquy, and which causes him to be shunned and avoided and which has the tendency to injure him in his occupation.
Be advised that since 1973, Sikh Dharma has been recognized by the federal government of the United States and the government of the State of California as a religious corporation which is dedicated to the teachings of the principles of the Sikh Dharma in the Western Hemisphere. The chief religious and administrative authority of Sikh Dharma, in conformity with its bylaws, is the office of the Sin you and your newspaper. Ram Das Singh Khalsa Attorney at Law Editor’s Note: The World Sikh News stands by its article stating that the S.G.P.C. did not confer the title of “Singh Sahib” Yogi Bhajan. The Secretary of the S.G.P.C. stands by Statement.
