New Delhi: The Narasimha Rao government is said to be toying. with the idea of dismissing UP.s BJP government to frustrate the efforts of the party to demolish a few temples adjoining the Babri masjid to pave the way for the construction of a Ram temple there a step that to likely to give the BJP ahead start in any future mid-term election.
The matter was discussed recently by the Indian cabinet and a majority of its members are said to be in favor of dismissal but the intelligence bureau warmed that no such action should be taken during the communally sensitive Ramzan month Thus the action is likely after April 5 according to highly placed sources.
In the meantime the Indian government sent a team of the national integration council to Ayodhia to study the situation. The teams report will serve Delhi’s purpose to build public opinion against the BJP governments actions. It will also keep the pot boiling until the month of Ramzan is over.
“The proposal is however being opposed by defence minister Sharad Pawar on the grounds that the Congress (I) government is still in a precarious position in the Lok Sabha and is dependent on BJP for support. But his politician is thought to be dismissible as a maneuver aimed at belittling the “achievements” of home minister S.B. Chavan.
The anti-BJP lobby is bent upon a “demonstrative action” against the party to dispel the public impression that the present central government’s hick with the Hindu Fundamentalist party. Prime Minister Rao has reportedly consulted veteran U.P Congress (I) leader N.D. Tewari who is said to be in favor of dismissing the government.
