AMRITSAR: U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State John Malott visited New Delhi, from May 1719, 1993 after having visited Islamabad. His partying kick was a press conference in which he declared the whole of Kashmir that is on both sides of the actual line of control, to be a disputed territory, This takes the Kashmir issue back to its basis agreed to by pandit Jhwarla} Nehru who had promised plebiscite to the Kashmiris. And this could also invite ULN. Intervention.

Delhi’s placid pool is disturbed by John Malott’s racking of the embers of an old dispute; the agitated govt. of India has tacitly allowed rumors of war and movement of troops with the deployment of surface to surface missile, Prithvi on the Indo Pak border.

As if this was not enough, the senior, U.S. State Dept. official, advised the govt of India to curb Human Rights violations in Kashmir by the Indian any, and hold talks with the govt. of Pakistan to settle the Kashmir issue. He offered the good offices of the U.S.A. in case the two (India and Pakistan) requested. Further John Malott demanded that India permit free visits to Kashmir and Punjab by organizations such as Amnesty International, Asia Watch etc.

The Sikhs always pray for peace and amity and hope hostilities would be avoided.
