NEW DELHE: Defense minister Sharad Pawar Thursday announced that the Indian industry could now use defense laboratories to introduce new technologies and high quality in their products, to meet stiff international competition.

He said “with the new industrial policy of the government as a platform, we have to lay stress on improving quality and reliability of our products if we want to find a place in the highly competitive world market”.

In order to achieve higher quality and reliability we have to look towards defense design and production units where this culture predominates” he said.

Pawar was delivering the inaugural address on “technologies of the decade in key hi tech thrust areas” at the fifth international congress on high technology organized by the national foundation of Indian engineers (Nafen) here.

He said France is a pioneer in this field to translate military communication technology to a civilian product, military aircraft to civilian aircraft and guided missile to satellite launch vehicles.

In this contest he said “I feel we may have to do something similar and opening the defense market to private sector is the first step in this direction”.
