AMRITSAR: There has been a sharp decline in the incidents of intrusions and encounters on the Indo Pakistan border in Punjab border since September last, according to a border security force spokesman.
Talking to newsmen he said this might be due to shift in the policy by Pakistan or freedom fighters might be trying new routes in the Jammu area in the northern most part of the country.
The period between Junes to September last, he said, was very tough and difficult as there were many encounters and instances of people entering from Pakistan with arms and ammunition.
The spokesman said that the barbed fencing of the 120 kms on the Indo Pakistan border in Punjab which was completed this year was being supplemented with 65 kms of flood lights. This work is expected to be taken up shortly.
