NEW DELHI: N.D. Tiwari formally relinquished as Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) President after a 45minute meeting with Party President P.V. Narasimha Rao, who “reserved” his decision on the withdrawal of the party’s support to the Mulayam Singh Yadav Government. Tiwari later told newspersons that from January 1, he would not function as the state party chief, as “I have failed to elicit a positive response from the party leadership on the UPCC resolutions for withdrawal of support to the SPBSP Government.
According to Tiwari, the Prime Minister said the party decision on. The issue would be communicated in a few days. In reply to a question about the, possibility of withdrawal of support, Tiwari said “I cannot make any hazardous guess on this count.”
After his meeting with Rao, the senior leader of Uttar Pradesh looked relaxed and commented, “Tam happy, but unhappy also as. Casteist forces are surviving in the most populous state.” Taking formal leave after quitting the post, Tiwari, urged State party men not to dilute their Satyagraha program, aimed at heralding a new era of social justice and communal amity.
