EL CENTRO: Mayor Dhillon has been challenged with a growing crime rate, a more aggressive criminal clement along with a slumping economy. Despite these challenges, he persevered and established much larger police and recreation departments. El Centro will be a big recipient of crime bill funding. Also, more parks and a brand new multi-purpose Gymnasium was opened this year. Mayor Dhillon feels that prevention programs are an important link to a peaceful and viable community. Also, to get more support from parents.
Mayor Dhillon also traveled to Mexico City and met with their leaders. His purpose was to make the contacts so that Imperial County can get a jump on the economic opportunities that NAFTA will bring.
Probably, the single biggest accomplishment this last year was the start of David Singh Dhillon’s own T.V. show on the local Fox affiliate. The show is called “Dhillon with the Community.” It highlights Mayor Dhillon’s presence, as he addressed Such issues as Immigration, politics. youth, citizen recognition, crime. gangs and graffiti
Mayor Dhillon hopes to travel to India for the first time, and possibly film his show from Punjab. Mayor Dhillon, with all his endeavors, commits 90-100 hours a week to the community.
