SAS NAGAR: The Indian Minorities and Dalit Front asked Dalits in Punjab not to repay the loans taken from government as well as nongovernment agencies.

Ata meeting held here under the president ship of Mr Balwant Singh Tohra, the front said the financial position of Dalits over the past eight years had become weak due to the conditions in the state. The Ropar district unit of the front would launch a campaign to persuade Dalits not to repay loans.

The meeting, which was attended by the presidents of the district units of the front and other office bearers, adopted 11 resolutions on various issues.

It criticized the “illegal arrest” of Mr Simranjit Singh Mann and said if he was not freed immediately; the Punjab problem would become more complicated. It also sought the release of Harjinder Singh Jinda, Sukhdev Singh Sukha, Ranjit Singh and Ajit Singh.

The front appreciated Mr V.P. ‘Singh’s stand on the Mandal report and the Babri Masjid Ram Janmabhoomi issue and urged him to accept the genuine demands of Punjab, including the unconditional release of Sikh political detainees.

It welcomed the decisions of militant bodies in favor of the Dalits’ rights. It asked the Akali Dals to clarify their stands on the job reservation policy and the rights of Dalits.

The front decided to participate in the dharna to be organized by the AISSF.
