JALANDHAR: The Akali Dal (M) protested to the Army against the recent alleged shooting of nine persons near Kakar Kalan village in Amritsar district,

In a letter sent to the Corps Commander, Mr Kulbir Singh, President of the Akali Dal (Mann) Jalandhar unit claimed that the Army had been deployed on the border without legal authority. This was a Lear violation of the treaty of St. Getersburg of 1869 and the Hague Convention of 1907.

He alleged that the nine persons who were shot dead while crossing the border were not Bangladeshis

He said these youths were picked up from Ferozepore and shot dead in the jurisdiction of the Gorkha battalion.

Mr Kudbir Singh said even if these youths were Bangladeshis there was no reason to shoot them, but they would have been produced before a legistrate,

Copies of the letter have also been sent to the army chief and the GOC Western Command,
