AMRITSAR: Members of the Akali Dal (L) working committee presidents of its districts units, members of SGPC belonging to the party and its former legislators at a 3 hour meeting held in the office within the Golden Temple complex stated that the governor, Virinder Verma, had no right to alter the decision of Barnala’s govt on the Eradi commission report on the distribution of river waters.

In a lengthy resolution, the patty said the Eradi panel report had been rejected by the Barnala govt and Verma could not change this decision as he was only a constitutional head. Under the circumstances construction of the SYL canal should be stopped at once. The meeting said no water should be given to Haryana or any other state till an elected govt took charge. This is the first Akali L meeting within the Golden Temple after Operation Blue star.

Tota Singh who succeeds Barnala told newsmen that all future meetings would be held in the Temple complex.
