JALANDHAR: The Akali Dal (Badal) senior vice-president, Kuldip Singh Wadala has said that the party had never demanded Khalistan but it was in favor of an independent Sikh state in which the Sikhs would enjoy social, political and economic freedom. Talking to newsmen here the Akali leader said the Sikhs should be given powers to elect their own government as the Beant Singh government was a puppet government.
He said the Rajiv Longowal pact had become outdated in the light Of present circumstances. Wadala condemned the statement of Surjit Singh Bamala accusing Badal for creating hurdles in the unity move. He said it was ironic that those very people who had broken the party were now posing as staunch followers of the unity move.
