TARN TARAN: An indefinite curfew was imposed on this sensitive border town following the death of two persons in CRPF firing. Two others were seriously injured. An unsavory situation had developed with simmering tension between the CRPF and Punjab police. An exchange of fire resulted in the vicinity of Gurdwara Darbar Sahib. Additional DGP Bhinder was in town. The CRPF men went berserk firing indiscriminately for about one hour. Senior officers rushed to the spot and pacified the men.
In the hour long exchange of firing the CRPF men fired into a crowded marketplace resulting in the 4 causalities.
In another incident near Bodhiwala, a shot fired by a CRPF hit a constable of a police party led by a DSP trying to pacify the CRPF men. The incident sparked of tension between the two forces.
The killed were identified as Amar Singh and his sister in law Jagjit Kaur. The injured Simanjit Kaur and Madan Lal were admitted to hospital.
