MEERUT: An indefinite curfew was imposed early Dec 13 in this north Indian city in and cantonment areas after 7 persons were killed and two others injured in shooting incidents Dec 12.
Curfew has been imposed in the areas comprising 13 police stations. The shooting took place in Rashid Nagar and Islamabad localities of the city.
The district magistrate G.C Chaturvedi told PTI Dec 13 that investigations were on to find the cause of the flare up.
He said all schools, colleges, government offices, banks, post offices, courts had been closed till further orders and functioning of special police officers, appointed to assist administration, has been stayed.
Chaturvedi said, all curfew passes issued earlier have been cancelled and fresh but limited press passes would be issued on Dec 13.
The senior supdt police Babu Lal Yadava told PTI that house to house searches were conducted near the two localities where gunshots were fired Dec 12 and around 130 persons rounded up for interrogation.
Police patrolling has also been stepped up. he said. PTI ANJ.
